Creamy chicken Marsala is a classic Italian-American dish made with chicken breasts, mushrooms, and a rich, creamy Marsala wine sauce. It is typically served over pasta or mashed potatoes. The dish gets its name from the Marsala wine that is used to make the sauce, which is a fortified wine from Sicily. The wine is cooked down with mushrooms and chicken broth to create a rich, flavorful sauce that is then thickened with heavy cream. The dish is often garnished with fresh parsley for added flavor and color. It is a hearty and satisfying meal that is perfect for a special occasion or a cozy night in.

  • Total Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients:

  • 4 chicken breasts
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 8 oz sliced mushrooms
  • 1 cup Marsala wine
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, salt, and black pepper. Dredge the chicken breasts in the mixture, shaking off any excess.
  3. In a large skillet, melt the butter with the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the chicken breasts and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
  4. Transfer the chicken to a baking dish and place in the preheated oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.
  5. In the same skillet, add the mushrooms and cook until they are tender. Pour in the Marsala wine and chicken broth, and bring to a simmer.
  6. Add the heavy cream and parsley, and continue to simmer until the sauce has thickened.
  7. Serve the chicken with the creamy Marsala sauce on top. Enjoy!
