Roasted chicken can be a healthy and nutritious option for a meal. Some potential health benefits of eating roasted chicken include:

  1. High in protein: Chicken is a good source of protein, which is important for building and repairing tissues in the body. Protein is also important for maintaining muscle mass, supporting immune function, and helping to regulate appetite and metabolism.
  2. Low in fat: Depending on how it is prepared, roasted chicken can be low in fat, especially when the skin is removed.
  3. High in essential nutrients: Chicken is a good source of essential nutrients, including B vitamins (such as niacin and B6), selenium, and phosphorus.
  4. Good for weight management: Because it is low in fat and high in protein, chicken can be a good option for people trying to manage their weight.
  5. May reduce the risk of certain chronic diseases: Some research suggests that high protein, low fat diets that include poultry may be associated with a reduced risk of certain chronic diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes.

It is important to note that the overall health benefits of roasted chicken will depend on how it is prepared and the other ingredients that are included in the recipe. For example, adding unhealthy sauces or serving the chicken with high calorie sides may negate some of the potential health benefits.

  • Total Time: 45 mins

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 whole chicken (about 45 pounds)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Olive oil or melted butter
  • Optional: herbs or spices of your choice (such as rosemary, thyme, garlic, or paprika)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Rinse the chicken and pat it dry with paper towels. Season the inside of the chicken with salt and pepper.

Rub the outside of the chicken with a little bit of olive oil or melted butter, then season with salt, pepper, and any herbs or spices you are using. Place the chicken in a roasting pan or baking dish.

Roast the chicken in the preheated oven for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F (74 degrees C) when measured with a meat thermometer. Baste the chicken with the pan juices every 20-30 minutes to keep it moist.

When the chicken is done, remove it from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before carving. This will allow the juices to redistribute, resulting in a juicier and more flavorful chicken.

Serve the roasted chicken with your choice of sides, such as roasted vegetables or mashed potatoes. Enjoy!
